About the Item
Rodolphe is a unique black chalk on paper painting by contemporary artist Guy Oberson, dimensions are 140 × 120 cm (55.1 × 47.2 in). Dimensions of the framed artwork are 145 x 125 cm (57 x 49.2 in).
The artwork is signed, sold framed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
The profile of a man's face is captured in this portrait, standing out against the dark background typical of black chalk. Due to the textured effect created by the numerous vertical lines obscuring the portrait and the lighting effect designed by the artist, this drawing assumes a rather surreal and sombre atmosphere of memory.
Guy Oberson doesn't outline his works; instead, he builds them up from a collection of lines. Through this method, subjects appear when viewed from a distance and vanish right before the observer's eyes as they get closer. Black chalk is blurred by the artist in a variety of vertical streaks, which obstructs the subject's perception and slows down the work's immediate interpretation.

Guy Oberson
Guy Oberson’s paintings, produced in black chalk or in oil, plunge the observer into an ambiguous and timeless universe. Figurative and abstract themes confront and complement each other in his work. The artist shades the black chalk with a multitude of vertical streaks which alters the perception of the subject. This last is thus taken apart, loosing body, but gains in expressive intensity. For around 15 years the artist has exhibited his works in European museums, contemporary art spaces, foundations, fairs and galleries. In 2014 he was awarded the Bédikian Foundation Award (Paris) and in 2016 he received the State of Friborg Cultural Award (Switzerland). “Being an artist is above all a daily attempt to contribute to the freedom of the gaze, autonomy of thought, and the retransmission of energy and beauty.”

- 18th Century Sanguine Drawing, La Naissance de Louis XIII, After Rubens.Located in Cotignac, FR18th Century French Sanguine drawing, possibly a preparatory sketch for the painting by Nattier after the painting by Rubens. Presented in shaped 'marie-louise' mount in plain gold wood frame with collection label. The subject is the Queen Marie de' Medici seated on a grand throne, the baby is in the arms of Health while Justice looks over him. Fecundity brings a cornucopia of fruit with the heads of the other children the Queen will bear. The Sun rides his chariot across the sky to indicate that Louis XIII was born in the morning and the calm figure of France surveys the whole scene. An engraving exists (see the Wellcome Collection) of this same image: 'The birth of King Louis XIII', after the engraving by B. Audran the younger after the painting by Jean-Marc Nattier after the oil painting of Peter Paul Rubens in the Louvre 'La Naissance du Dauphin (future Louis XIII) à Fontainebleau, le 27 septembre 1601'. Jean-Marc Nattier (17 March 1685 – 7 November 1766) was a French painter. He was born in Paris, the second son of Marc Nattier (1642–1705), a portrait painter, and of Marie Courtois (1655–1703), a miniaturist. He is noted for his portraits of the ladies of King Louis XV's court in classical mythological attire. He received his first instruction from his father, and from his uncle, the history painter Jean Jouvenet (1644–1717). He enrolled in the Royal Academy in 1703 and applied himself to copying pictures in the Luxembourg Palace, making a series of drawings of the Marie de Médici painting...Category
