A Fine Early 20th Century 152 Piece Austrian Flatware Set by Berndorf Alpacca
By Berndorfer Metallwarenfabrik
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A Fine Early 20th Century 152 Piece Austrian Dinnerware Flatware Set by Berndorfer Metallwaaren-Fabrik, stamped 'Berndorf Alpacca', The Neoclassical Revival style set of Alpacca flatware comprising of: 12 Fish knives 12 Salad forks 12 Salad knives 12 Pasta spoons 12 Dessert spoons 12 Coffee spoons 12 Tea spoons 12 Ice-cream spoons 1 Ice thong 1 Soup ladle 1 Serving spoon 1 Salad spoon 1 Sauce/Gravy ladle 1 Meat carving knife 1 Meat carving fork 1 Salad fork All inside its original lined wooden storage-traveling cabinet. (See all images). Circa: Vienna, 1900-1930. The Alpacca alloy was developed in 1823 by the German chemist Dr. Ernst August Geitner (1783-1852). It was very similar in its appearance to silver, therefore, this new alloy was first called "Argentan". It consisted of 20% nickel, 55% copper and 25% zinc. The new silver-imitating alloy soon became very popular. The Gebrueder Henninger (Henninger Bros.) proposed a similar alloy (5-30% nickel, 45-70% copper and 8-45% zinc with trace amounts of lead, tin and iron) which they called "Neusilber". Later both Argentan and Neusilber were used under the trade name of Alpacca (or Alpakka). The great advantage of the use of Alpacca alloy as the base metal for silver plating is that the appearance of the objects does not change significantly with the wearing away of the silver layer and, unlike sterling silver, it does not require frequent polishing or cleaning due to tarnishing. The earliest known Berndorf Alpacca mark (No.1) was introduced around 1880 and used until 1891. I found it on the bottom of a 30 cl teapot bearing the inscription KRIEAU, which corresponds to the "Wiener Krieau", the famous race course in Vienna. The mark No.1 represents an oval of 3.0 x 3.6 mm size bearing the lettering "BMF ALPACCA" (which means Berndorfer Metallwaaren Fabrik or Berndorf Metalware Factory) with the "M" and "F" letters being fused. Inside the oval there is a profile of a walking bear looking down. This mark is quite rare. 69 Pc Pickard Floral Chintz Service for 10 Dinnerware China Set
By Pickard

Set includes: Large Oval Platter, Small Oval Platter, Oval Serving Bowl, 12 Dinner Plates, 12 Salad Plates, 10 Soup Bowls, 12 Bread Plates, 10 Saucers, 10 Teacups. "Pickard China was incorporated in Edgerton, Wisconsin, in 1893. Wilder Austin Pickard (1857–1939) started the company in 1894 by offering his customers hand-painted giftware, artware, and eventually dinnerware. He moved the company to Chicago in 1897. The company was originally called Pickard China Studio and it specialized in hand-decorating dessert and tea sets. Pickard assembled a group of men and women china painters, many emigrating from Europe, to create this uniquely American style of hand-painted china. Many of the original artists were from the Art Institute of Chicago. At first all the porcelain was manufactured in Europe. Pickard would import the blank plates and decorate them in their studio. Wilder's son Austin Pickard began to work at the company and made the decision to begin manufacturing the blank plates and dishes themselves. In 1930 the first experimental china was made. Pickard also worked on making its own glazes. In 1937, after the experimentation was complete, a production facility was opened in Antioch, Illinois. Austin's son, Henry A. Pickard, aka Pete Pickard, was the third generation to enter the family business and served as president from 1966 until his retirement in 1994. In 1977, Pickard was selected by the U.S. Department of State to manufacture the official service of china used by American embassies and other diplomatic missions around the world. Pickard was also selected to produce exclusive fine china...

Vintage 6 Florentine Handcrafted Silver and Luxion Crystal Glasses from R.C.R
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Linear and essential table service composed of six drinking glasses; the glasses are enriched by a solid silver mount, executed by hand lathe in an excellent way, in fact, the upper edge is obtained by turning the silver plate on itself, and, towards the base, a sturdy step was created that underneath was then folded over the base of the glass itself; this was done to wisely reinforce the whole mount so that it is integral with the body of the glass; also aesthetically the glass has a sober, elegant and clean line. From the punch, stamped on the silver part, it can be seen that the glasses were made between 1980 and 1985 by the Florentine silversmith and craftsman Cecconi Valerio, his workshop was located in Bagno a Ripoli, on the outskirts of Florence (Italy), the firm closed around 2000; he specialized in making crystal objects assembled with silver; he researched unique, original and special crystals for his items, and executed the silver supports with art and technique, creating high-quality objects. Also for our glasses, artisan Cecconi wanted to use a particular crystal produced by the company R.C.R. (Royal Crystal Rock...
