Vintage Asian Drop Ceiling Panels Hand Painted Embossed, Set of 18
Located in Topeka, KS
Gorgeous set of 18 vintage Asian drop ceiling panels. They are 2 x 2 ft. lauan wood squares, ¼ inch thick. 16 yellow with dragon design and 2 white with dragon and symbol design, hand painted and gilded, in beautiful condition with wear as you would expect with vintage pieces. All panels have varying degrees of wear including nicks, dings, scratches, and chips – we call it patina – they are by no means perfect but are beautiful. Please see photos, Circa, 20th century. Don’t ever let anyone turn your sky into a ceiling…-live life happy…. UNLESS it’s covered in oriental bliss with these awesome vintage Asian drop ceiling panels!!! There are eighteen of these lauan wood drop ceiling squares. Sixteen have a yellowish frame or background and two are off-white. They are all hand painted and gilded, possibly from a pattern or mold, and embossed with bright colors of gold, red, green, and yellow with designs of dragons, oriental symbols, and flowers…they are breathtaking!! And, oh my goodness, the possibilities!!!! Obviously, they would be perfect for a drop ceiling in an oriental restaurant or nail salon...

Bellamy Style Hand-Carved New England Pine Eagle, Early to Mid-20th Century
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
This is an original American eagle, hand-carved from pine during the early to mid 20th century. The eagle features a touch of original gilt over yellow sizing with hand-painted highlights, emphasizing the eyes and beak. The eagle is displayed with both wings fully outstretched. The feathers are expertly detailed, especially considering that this eagle is a single-piece carving. The eagle is both the national bird and the national animal of the United States. The founders of the United States were fond of comparing their new republic with the Roman Republic, in which eagle imagery, usually the golden eagle, was prominent. On June 20, 1782, the Continental Congress adopted the design for the Great Seal of the United States depicting a bald eagle grasping 13 arrows in its sinister (left) talon and an olive branch with its dexter (right) talons. Those arrows are tightly aligned, a symbol of "strength in unity" that's found in the traditional cultures everywhere, from the Romans to the Iroquois. In this case, the bundle of arrows were a nod to the unity of the original 13 colonies. The olive branches emphasize the power of peace. The eagle motif has since appeared in allegorical engravings...

Calibrated to Balance, hanging sculpture by Monica Guggisberg & Philip Baldwin
Located in London, GB
'Calibrated to Balance' is a unique red, green, yellow, teal and amber hand-blown and cut glass hanging artwork with steel frame by the American and Swiss artists, Philip Baldwin and Monica Guggisberg. Exquisitely handblown and cut to the highest quality and refinement, the elements have been composed and suspended on a steel frame ready for wall hanging. Increasingly the artists have become more sculptural in focus, while seeking to imbue their work with a deep connection to archetypal forms and shapes, and striving for the highest level of craftsmanship. They address eternal symbols of human culture and history, primarily through blown glass, but also using steel, and constructions in other materials. Baldwin (1947, New York) and Guggisberg (1955, Bern) have been a collaborative team for over forty years. They share an instinctive appreciation for the subtle blending of art and design, functionality and abstract expression, combined with a love of material – especially glass. The list of museums and collections which have acquired their works is long and impressive. Individual showings, as well as participation in group shows, have given them opportunities to present their works at leading galleries and in major museums in Europe, Japan and the United States and their works rank among the best to be found in the international glass art scene. Working freelance, they have also designed successful products for international glass manufacturers since 1985. Their clients have included renowned firms like Rosenthal, Steuben, Corning and Venini. Over time their work has developed its own distinctive signature, based in Italian cold-working (battuto) combined with the Swedish overlay process for layering colours. They have been pioneers in adapting these techniques and in creating a distinct expression of their own. Colour, light, texture, pattern, and shape together reveal an undercurrent of meaning and value, adhering to the simplest of forms and clear lines. Over the years they have become more sculptural in focus, while seeking to imbue their work with a deep connection to archetypal forms and shapes, and striving for the highest level of craftsmanship. They address eternal symbols of human culture and history, while embracing contemporary evolution in form and meaning. In recent years large installations and major exhibitions in public spaces, such as Canterbury Cathedral...

"Disc Jacket" by Gordon Chandler
Located in Chicago, IL
Upon discovering a weathered steel drum that had been warped to resemble the sleeve of a garment, artist Gordon Chandler was inspired to embark on a series of kimono sculptures formed from found metal scraps. With an eye to the aesthetic possibilities of this humble material, Chandler invests reclaimed steel with sculptural fluidity and a wry sense of form. Crafted from the round end of an industrial barrel, this salvaged steel scrap takes on the shape of a small, flattened jacket. Well-positioned cuts transform the rusted metal into a makeshift garment, drawing the outline of sleeves and a simple collar. The jacket has a dark green coated...

Antique and Vintage Wall-mounted Sculptures

Antique and vintage wall-mounted sculptures can tie a room together and will work well with existing decor. From mid-century modern works to Art Deco to brutalist sculptures, there’s something to pair with every furniture style and aesthetic taste.

Whether you tend toward the dramatic or prefer to keep things casual with understated works of metal or wood, introducing wall-mounted sculpture as part of your decor is going to make a statement. Any sculpture, no matter its size or shape, will bring life into a space and accentuate the work you’ve already done to create a welcoming environment.

A unique three-dimensional figurative sculpture mounted on your dining-room wall is definitely going to stir reflection and conversation over meals and cocktails, while a trio of abstract works arranged on the bookshelves in your living room can add spontaneity and draw attention to your collection of first-edition artist monographs. And while decorating with busts, which are sculpted or cast figurative works, hasn’t topped the list of design trends every year, busts are back.

In your living room, perhaps you’re thinking about integrating a dazzling wallpaper design or large-scale landscape paintings.

If you’re instead considering creating a single focal point with a wall-mounted sculpture, there is an array of objects that you might not have top of mind. Art Deco wall mirrors, your collection of Fornasetti dinner plates or a grouping of ceramic wall planters, for example, when positioned to face the main entrance of your living room, will help you plan for furniture placement and can amount to a warm and inviting touch for an area that will see a lot of foot traffic.

The good news is that design is personal. Perhaps your space will benefit from a maximalist touch? Alongside his scores of Instagram followers, for example, unapologetic maximalist James Kivior, a design enthusiast and national educational manager for French cosmetics brands, is inspired by the idea of too much tiger print. If a maximalist approach sounds like too much for your modest-sized space, consider a sparse distribution of your collection instead — some vintage mid-century modern wall sculptures can go here, some vibrant folk art or Italian art glass can go here. Get creative!

Whatever your preference, find an extraordinary range of antique, new and vintage wall-mounted sculptures today on 1stDibs.
