"Sanctuary" Impressionist Realism Landscape Oil on Linen
By Uri Blayer
Located in Carmel, CA
"Sanctuary," a 16" x 28" oil on linen creation by Israeli artist Uri Blayer, is a serene portrayal of rustic tranquility set against a lush mountainous backdrop. In this piece, Blayer employs a palette dominated by earthy greens, rich browns, and soft greys, evoking the natural harmony of the rural landscape. The painting’s composition leads the viewer’s gaze across a verdant field to the quaint cottage, a splash of blue on its roof adding a gentle contrast to the surrounding neutral tones. The artwork radiates a calming, almost nostalgic emotion, reminiscent of a quiet life, undisturbed by the bustle of modernity. Blayer’s brushwork combines precision with a gentle looseness that gives "The Little Cottage" a dreamlike quality, inviting one to step into its peaceful world.

Edgar Alwin Payne was an American painter known for his landscapes, seascapes and western paintings.
He was born in Washburn, Missouri on March 1, 1882, and began painting at the age of 14. He began his career by designing and painting scenery for the stage, and murals for homes and theaters. Primarily a self taught artist, he did though study briefly at the Art Institute in Chicago.
Recognized as one of California's leading landscape artists, Payne earned the respect of his peers and art critics for his Impressionistic landscapes painted in the plein-air style. Possessing a reverence for nature, he especially loved the mountains. Frequently he took pack horses in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range to the upper lakes to sketch and paint, there he glorified the areas majestic peaks and cobalt blue lakes. Payne Lake was named in his memory.
Drawn to Europe, Payne trekked to and painted the elevated heights of the Swiss Alps, the colorful fishing boats of Concarneau Harbor and Brittany, France and the picturesque sailing vessels of Chioggia, Venice, Italy. He spent time capturing on canvas Arizona's Canyon De Chelly and Navajo horsemen traversing the region's arid tablelands. He painted California...

Graner paints this work, Moonlit on the river, during his stay in the United States in the last stage of his artistic life, from 1910 to 1928, in full stage of maturity.
This artwork reflects the constant search of the artist for the effects of light in his work. This persistent concern for light remains throughout his artistic life, which he learned in his Parisian stage under the influence of the painter Frances Platour.
The silver light of the moon and the small lights at distance, which are tiny foci of artificial light, reflecting the river water, forming a chromatic range of greens, ocher and pearly that give a certain mystery to the composition, creating a modern approach to the landscape, by placing the two large trees at the edge of the river in the foreground
Luís Graner y Arrufí, Spanish (1863–1929) was a Catalan painter in the Realistic style.
He was born in Barcelona, and studied at the Escola de la Llotja from 1883, with Antoni Caba (color/composition) and Benet Mercadé (drawing).
During his final year at school, he received a grant to study in Madrid, where he copied and learned from the Old Masters at the Museo del Prado. After that, supported by a fellowship, he moved to Paris and became a member of the Academie des Beaux-Arts. Later, he returned to Barcelona, but continued to travel to cities throughout Europe, including Berlin, Munich and Düsseldorf.
Influenced by Richard Wagner's concept of "Gesamtkunstwerk" (Total Work of Art), he was motivated to create his own total art experience and organized the "Sala Mercè" (Mercy Hall) in Barcelona's Rambla District. The project involved contributors from every artistic discipline, including the new field of cinematography. The room was decorated by Antoni Gaudí. Other participants included Adrià Gual, Santiago Rusiñol, Ramon Casas...
