Haroshi Art
Japanese, b. 1978
Haroshi is best known for making sculptures from recycled wooden skateboard decks. The self-taught artist blends craftsmanship and pop culture as he stacks and glues together carefully selected decks, then hand-cuts, carves, paints, and polishes them to a smooth finish. Because of the layering involved, the finished sculptures—which take the shape of animals, body parts, skulls, teddy bears, and cartoonish figures—have striped exteriors. Intricate and precise, they can evoke inami, a Japanese wood-carving tradition, and the sleek forms of Jeff Koons. Haroshi has also transformed skateboards into large-scale collages and installations and produced sculptures in bronze, vinyl, and iron. Haroshi’s work has been exhibited in cities including New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Tokyo, Osaka, and London, and he has collaborated with a number of brands, including Nike, BE@RBRICK, and Sacai.(Biography provided by New Union Gallery)

Jeff Koons is an American artist known for his reproductions of banal objects—such as balloon animals produced in stainless steel with mirror-finish surfaces. He lives and works in both New York City and his hometown of York, Pennsylvania.
Since his first solo exhibition in 1980, Koons’ work has been shown in major galleries and institutions throughout the world. His work was the subject of a major exhibition organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art, Jeff Koons: A Retrospective (June 27 – October 19, 2014), which traveled to the Centre Pompidou Paris (November 26, 2014 – April 27, 2015) and the Guggenheim Bilbao (June 9 – September 27, 2015). A solo exhibition of recent and new work was recently on view at Gagosian, Beverly Hills (April 27 – August 18, 2017).
Koons is widely known for his iconic sculptures Rabbit and Balloon Dog as well as the monumental floral...
