Elliott Kaufman Art

American

Elliott Kaufman, is acclaimed for a series titled Abandoned in which he gained entry into various historical sites to photograph crumbling interiors. Kaufman's career path is unique but has always revolved around architectural motives. When he began shooting in the mid 70s his orientation was toward the fine arts. He developed ideas for site-specific photomurals and wall art much before this concept became a mainstream art venue.

Hudson River 10 2x81 (Graphic Abstract Grid Photograph of Runners in NYC)
By Elliott Kaufman
Located in Hudson, NY
Archival chromogenic digital C Print image size: 24 x 35 inches paper size: 30 x 38 inches Unframed Elliott Kaufman describes New York City as “a laboratory in constant movement. In his series “Street Dance,” Kaufman photographs repetitive actions of passersby – such as riding a bicycle or entering a subway station – from a single vantage point and arranges the images in a grid. Key to his series, Kaufman explains, was caluculating how changing light would affect the environment. “The bicycles had to be backlit at the very end of the day,” he says. “The subway sterps were calculated so that the light would cast perfect north/south shadwos.” He also shot a varying number of exposures at each scene to relay the “staccato rhythm” he sought – as many as 225. “The camera catches the commonality of movement,” he says, “until what endures is a patter of dance and motion.” A number of artists have led him in this direction, including the Bauhaus and the collaborative media which they pioneered, the 1977 film Powers Of Ten, which depicts the relative scale of the universe in factors of ten, Mike Figgis...

Cloud, Contemporary Color Photography on Reflections
By Roberta Fineberg
Located in New york, NY
For the image “Cloud” the artist Roberta Fineberg’s attention and equilibrium remained anchored on an anthropomorphic cloud during an unusual springtime (the pandemic 2020) in New York. Sheltering in place, with the soul of the City laid bare, birds sang louder than usual outside city dwellers’ windows. Sunlight illuminated the empty streets, formerly bustling. Nature reigned. A contemporary color photograph, Cloud, 2020 by Roberta Fineberg is 18" x 24" (sheet size) an archival pigment print on baryta paper in an edition of 5. Photograph is signed by the artist. Provenance: RF Archive *** Artist Bio: As a photographer and visual artist, Roberta Fineberg (RF) focuses on the themes of serendipity, inventiveness, and development of ideas for her photography, video, installations, works on paper, and painting. Drawn to experimentation, she explores diverse mediums and subjects such as the ephemeral (butterfly series), stolen moments (documentary work), play, timelessness, the enduring, and significance of matter. In July 2022, Roberta Fineberg’s Double Helix was included in a Sotheby’s auction in New York City and exhibited in the preview show Contemporary Discoveries. Selected exhibitions include: Time Gallery New York (2022), Phyllis Harriman Gallery New York studio shows (2022; 2020), CADAF online art...
