Deborah Lanyon Art
British, b. 1958
Deborah Lanyon’s large abstract paintings come from a generation of artists, mostly men, including John Hoyland, Frank Bowling, Howard Hodgkin and Sean Scully. Like those artists, she works rapidly and physically with canvases positioned on the floor, letting the paint have its own voice. Yet the feminine subtleties give the work interest and difference from those of the male painters in this genre. The paintings are the voice of a woman and a reflection of her personality: physical but effortless; dynamic yet soft; harmonious and rhythmic. They have something else to say that gives them a place in the evolution of abstract painting through the last four decades.

Push, Deborah Lanyon,
By Deborah Lanyon
Located in Deddington, GB
I often use collage or other mixed media. I favour acrylic, a quick-drying medium, to make the collage adhere to the surface of the canvas. I tend to work rapidly and very physically, with the canvases positioned on the floor, checking them periodically by raising them onto a wall or easel. Given the large scale on which I work (I regularly produce paintings which are six or even eight feet by four), 1 find that working on the floor is the best means to ensure a dynamicapplication of the paint. At this preliminary stage, the process of composition is more visceral and intuitive; when the canvas is raised, I work more intellectually, to check and shape the direction that the painting has been taking.
These are quite separate ‘moments’ which I compare to chess; on the floor I ‘attack’ the object from an emotional stance; when the painting is vertical, I enter a mode of ‘defence’, editing what has gone before.
In recent years, I have had solo shows with James Colman...

American Vivid Abstract Expressionist Art Oil Painting Norman Carton, WPA Artist
By Norman Carton
Located in Surfside, FL
Norman Carton (1908 – 1980) was an American artist and educator known for abstract expressionist art. He was born in the Ukraine region of Imperial Russia and moved to the United States in 1922 where he spent most of his adult life.
A classically trained portrait and landscape artist, Carton also worked as a drafter, newspaper illustrator, muralist, theater set designer, photographer, and fabric designer and spent most of his mature life as an art educator. Carton showed in and continues to be shown in many solo and group exhibitions. His work is included in numerous museums and private collections throughout the world.
Norman Carton was born in the Dnieper Ukraine territory of the Russian Empire in 1908. Escaping the turbulence of civil war massacres, he settled in Philadelphia in 1922 after years of constant flight. While attending the Pennsylvania Museum School of Industrial Art, Carton worked as a newspaper artist for the Philadelphia Record from 1928 to 1930 in the company of other illustrator/artists who had founded the Ashcan School, the beginnings of modern American art. From 1930 to 1935, he studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts under Henry McCarter, who was a pupil of Toulouse-Lautrec, Puvis de Chavanne, and Thomas Eakins. Arthur Carles, especially with his sense of color, and the architect John Harbison also provided tutelage and inspiration. Following his time at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Carton studied at the Barnes Foundation from 1935 to 1936 where he was influenced by an intellectual climate led by visiting lecturers John Dewey and Bertrand Russell as well as daily access to Albert C. Barnes and his art collection.
Carton was awarded the Cresson Traveling Scholarship in 1934 which allowed him to travel through Europe and study in Paris. There he expanded his artistic horizons with influences stemming from Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Chaim Soutine, and Wassily Kandinsky. While at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Carton was also awarded the Toppan Prize for figure painting as well as the Thouron Composition Prize. He received numerous commissions as a portrait artist, social realist, sculptor, and theatrical stage designer as well as academic scholarships. During this time, Carton worked as a scenery designer at Sparks Scenic Studios, a drafter at the Philadelphia Enameling Works, and a fine art lithographer.
From 1939 to 1942, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) Federal Art Project employed Carton as a muralist and easel artist. He collaborated with architect George Howe. The WPA commissioned Carton to paint major murals at the Helen Fleischer Vocational School for Girls in Philadelphia, the Officers’ Club at Camp Meade Army Base in Maryland, and in the city of Hidalgo, Mexico. Throughout the 1940s, Carton exhibited and won prizes for his semi-abstract Expressionist and Surrealist paintings. He socialized with and was inspired by Émile Gauguin and Fernand Leger. During World War II, Carton was a naval structural designer and draftsman at the Cramps...

Provenance
Steve Chase Design, Palm Springs, CA
Ronnie Landfield was born in the Bronx, NY on January 9, 1947 - the same day as his older brother. As a teenager, he was encouraged to pursue a career as an artist, subsequently creating his first real paintings around the age of 14. He was particularly influenced by a Life magazine article from 1961 on the Abstract Expressionists, most notably: Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Adolph Gottlieb, Hans Hofmann, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline.
After stints at the Art Students League, the Kansas City Art Institute, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of California at Berkeley, Landfield’s professional career as a painter began in New York in 1965. The following year, after completing a major series of hard-edge border paintings, success as a painter began to materialize. The famous architect and collector Philip Johnson and the collector Robert Scull each acquired large paintings works, as did the Sheldon Memorial Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska.
In 1967, Landfield was invited to participate in the Whitney Annual at the end of the year. His work attracted considerable attention, and he was invited to participate in important group exhibitions at the Bykert, Bianchini, and Park Place Galleries in New York.
Landfield joined the David Whitney...

The World VI-II - Large Sculptural Green Oil, Mixed Media, and Resin Painting
By Victoria Kovalenchikova
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Victoria Kovalenchikova’s artworks are an outlook at the transformation of the world surrounding us; a shout in the cold infinity of cosmos. It is an attempt to understand the impact of people on the planet through the language of art. The contemporary trend in her paintings is characterized by a figurative integration of abstract elements. Creatively mixing media from cement, resin, acrylic and epoxy on stretched canvas, Kovalenchikova’s work is simultaneously sculptural and painterly.
The variegated surface of this large 47 inch high by 63 inch wide textural artwork is covered with a shiny layer of clear, glass-like resin, which enhances the colors and adds depth. Sculptural topographical elements protrude beyond the smoother parts of the artwork. The sides are finished as a textural continuation of the front, and also feature several layers as well as unique detailing. This artwork is signed, titled and dated on the back by the artist. It does not require framing and is wired and ready to hang. Free local Los Angeles delivery included. Affordable Continental U.S. and global shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included.
Victoria Kovalenchikova was born in Belarus in 1978. In 2008 she moved to the Netherlands. Her series on the World is immediately familiar, provoking us to step closer and have a better look, then after a few moments the nuances of her art appear. Her training is evident in her skill in creating the textures. Her charisma can be felt by her depiction of the ocean and their various shades of colors. Victoria’s work is magnetic and is being consistently collected by art lovers.
Victoria Kovalenchikova’s abstract artworks are an outlook at the transformation of the world surrounding us; a shout in the cold infinity of cosmos. It is an attempt to understand the impact of people on the planet through the language of art. Using google images to explore the Earth in its entirety, she plays with angles and textures to create works that appreciate and bring attention to the uniqueness of our planet.
The contemporary trend in her paintings is characterized by a figurative integration of abstract elements. Creatively mixing media from cement, resin, acrylic and epoxy on stretched canvas, Victoria’s work is simultaneously sculpture and painting.
The variegated surface of this 40 inch tall by 59 inch wide textural artwork is covered with a shiny layer of crystalline, glass-like resin, which enhances the colors and adds depth. Sculptural topographical elements protrude beyond the smoother parts of the artwork. The sides are finished as a textural continuation of the front, adding more layers and detailing. It is signed, titled and dated on back by the artist. It does not require framing and is wired and ready to hang. Free delivery within Los Angeles. Affordable U.S. and global shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included.
Victoria Kovalenchikova was born in Mogilev, Belarus, and received her degree from the Belarusian State Academy of Arts. Her series on the world is immediately familiar, provoking us to step closer and have a better look, then after a few moments the nuances of her art appear. Her training is evident in her skillful application of textures, provoking a harmonious juxtaposition of elements that humbles our approach to the earth.
Kovalenchikova states, “Although we humans may feel like disconnected, independent fragments, Earth reminds us that we are all united on this place: notes within a larger symphony of life. No different from the massive whale in the ocean or the tiniest needle of a pine tree. There is no way out; to save ourselves we must save our home”
Kovalenchikova's works can be found in private and corporate art collections and museums worldwide; select institutions include the Museum of Russian Art in Jersey City, the Museum of Belarusian State Academy of Arts, the Contemporary Fine Art Museum in Belarus, the Romanov Regional Study of Local Lore Museum, the Belarusian Embassy in Germany and the Netherlands, and other international private collections.
Kovalenchikova's works are represented by Artspace Warehouse, Los Angeles.
