Rare ceremonial portrait of Louis de France, aged around 10, wearing rich miniature clothes following the men's fashion of his time. He is standing, turned in three quarters, his gaze with a solemn expression contrasts with his baby face with full cheeks which appears in the middle of thick blond curls falling on his shoulders. He wears a tobacco-colored cloth jacket which hides a shirt of which we only see the silver-embroidered sleeves. He wears the blue cord of the order of the Holy Spirit slung over his shoulder, and over it a ribbon embroidered with gold and silver. The white lace tie at her neck is enhanced by a coral ribbon bow. The same ribbon trimmings decorate his sleeves, his cane, and his sword holder...

This stunning Italian 17th century Old Master religious oil painting is by Baroque artist Giuseppe Bartolomeo Chari. Painted circa 1684 it is a large and vibrant oil painting of the Madonna and child. To their left is Saint Catherine and to their right four putti or cherubs look upon a sleeping Jesus. The detail in all the figures faces and hair and the colouring is just superb, especially the Madonna's sumptuous blue robe. A really fabulous 17th century religious work with previous full attribution and excellent provenance which was once attributed to Carlo Maratta (1625-1713). Provenance. He was born in Venice in 1712, the son of a minor painter, Domenico Guardi, and went on to become, after Canaletto, the main painter of views of Venice in the mid-18th century. His early figurative paintings were carried out in association with his brother, Gian Antonio, but in about 1760 Guardi turned to view painting, recording both the architecture of the city and the celebrations of its inhabitants in interior and exterior scenes. These works brought him great success. The earliest of these show the influence of Canaletto, but he gradually adopted a looser style characterized by spirited brush-strokes and freely imagined architecture. Jacob Bouttas, born in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1660, hailed from a family of artists with a rich artistic tradition. Like his father and teacher Frederic Bouttats II and his grandfather Frederic Bouttats I, he was strongly influenced by Jan Bruegel the Elder and the Brueghel-spirit echoes through his oeuvre. He specialized in painting landscapes with biblical and mythological scenes populated by small figures and animals (visible in, amongst other collections, Munich, Alte Pinakothek; Dijon, Musée des Beaux-Arts). A series of twelve coppers dedicated to the creation of the world according to the Genesis story, from the separation of light and darkness to the descent of Adam is preserved in the Museum of Navarra.
