Antique Victorian Gold Plated Crescent Moon And A Swallow Locket
About the Item
This rare antique Victorian crescent moon and a swallow locket was made circa 1890. Beautifully engraved with a crescent moon, a very popular symbol in Victorian jewellery and a symbol of changing of the seasons in one's life.
Crescent moons also symbolize the feminine moon goddess and is associated with female empowerment. The moon also symbolizes change, for just as the moon cycles through phases, so does life. Design also features a swallow bird in flight. Swallows were a popular motif in Victorian jewellery and pieces with this motif were often given to loved ones when they set out on a journey in a bid to keep them safe. It was a symbol of love and protection. The pieces is also decorated with paste stones and opens to reveal two compartments for the photographs.
Measurements: approx. 37mm diameter, weight approx. 13.07 grams
