Ancient Greece 280BC Tarentum Silver Stater Boy Riding a Dolphin 14Kt Gold Frame

About the Item

Boy riding a dolphin framed coin pendant. An ancient silver coin of one Tarantine Stater struck between 280-240 BC in the Greek port city of Tarentum, located in Calabria in the very southern Italy. This ancient coin has been carefully mounted in a custom-made round frame with four-prongs, crafted in solid yellow gold of 14 karats with high polished finish. Obverse description: Naked horseman riding to the right, crowning the horse with his raised right arm, Legend ΣΥ above, ΛΥΚΙ/ΝΟΣ below with a crab and legend below ΤΑ−ΡΑΣ between the horse's legs. Reverse description: Young Taras riding a dolphin to the left, chlamys over extended left, about to hurl trident, legend below ΤΑ−ΡΑΣ. Numismatic Literature: BMC P.181,161 HN ITALY 1025. Weight: 10.2 Grams, (6.45 Dwt.). Measurements: 30 mm by 26 mm (1.18 x 1.02 Inches). Collateral: This pendant is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box. Collateral: This ancient coin pendant is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity dated August 22, 1991. Copy of the numismatic reference is attached to the certificate. Condition: The overall condition of this coin pendant is excellent. Beside the little normal wear and bending, there is no damage to the gold or the coin.
