Chanel 1980s Matelassé Design Gold Plated Vintage Brooch

About the Item

This stylish brooch was created by Chanel in the 1980s. Condition Report: Excellent The Details... This gold plated brooch features three diamond shaped panels detailed with the famous Chanel Matelassé design. It fastens with a traditional safety clasp and the fastening pin is attached to the reverse of the brooch with a round hinge. The brooch measures 7.5cm x 3.5cm. The brooch is signed - the reverse features an oval shaped, gold-plated cartouche stamped with 'CHANEL', 'MADE IN FRANCE', a copyright symbol and the Chanel logo. The reverse of the brooch is also stamped with an authentication code at its base. The brooch comes with its original Chanel box too. A Short History... Created in 1955, the house of Chanel's iconic 2.55 handbag features a quilted pattern using stitched rhombuses that is known as the Matelassé design. Since its creation by Coco Chanel the Matelassé has been incorporated into so many items produced by the brand in various guises. Here, the rhombus quilting is a stylish design detail on a brooch.
