Wooden drawer used by old Japanese lacquerware craftsmen/Made in 1963/Showa era

About the Item

This is a lacquerware craftsman's workbench made on January 8, 1963. The production date is written on the back of the drawer. This work drawer is a stand for applying red and black lacquer to lacquerware, and red and black lacquer is spread over the surface of the top plate. The lacquer pattern is very beautiful. After the craftsman finishes applying lacquer, he wipes off the lacquer on the top plate, resulting in this pattern. When a craftsman goes out of business, tools like this become available on the market. This drawer was kept in the same condition as the craftsman used it, so it has not been modified. The view of the top board, which has the remains of a craftsman's use, is like looking at an abstract painting created by the unconscious mind. Drawers open and close smoothly. There was some Rattling in the drawer, so I pasted a felt sticker on the bottom to correct the Rattling. It would also be nice to use it as a display with a vase or something like that. Things like this are hard to come by even in Japan. There is a culture of lacquer, and it is something special that can only be found in Japan. There are very few stores that sell this kind of stuff on 1stdibs. We sell with confidence. Weight: 5.4kg.
