About the Item

Early 20th Century Heibatlu, Nomadic Persian Rug 5' 3 " x 8' Gorgeous, museum quality Persian rug handwoven by the legendary Qashqai sub-tribe, the Heibatlu. This tribe is easily one of the most recognizable subtribes of the Qashqais whose designs have heavily influenced the weavers in the Shiraz area. Heibatlu translates to The Magnificent Warriors, referring to the period they spent as a warrior tribe vying for power before the establishment of the Persian empire. They are recognized for their large central medallion, depictions of the pillars of Persopolis, and their unique floral borders. Authentic works of this tribe are difficult to find, especially antique pieces because they are so loved by collectors and rarely make their way to the public markets. Their scarcity is also do to the fact that very few descendants of this tribe continue to practice rug weaving in the modern age. This piece is comprised entirely of fine Persian wool that was raised, sheared, spun, dyed and hand-woven by member of the Heibatlu tribe over 100 years ago. Rugs during this period had a lot more time put into them. Intricate designs and fine weave shows that this rug was made with care and as an expression and representation of the weaver. It is truly a masterful example of tribal art. Old rug such as these are unique to the weaver. Plenty of elements are utilized by members of the same tribe, but still no one is exactly like the other. The color pallet in this rug is perfectly balanced and brings out each individual detail of this intricate rug. Rust tones, navys, golds, black and browns play off each other creating enough contrast for this piece to be a focal point, yet age has softened the colors enough to pair well with all sorts of decor. Whether you hang this piece on the wall or put it on your library floor, this piece will do wonderous things for your space. A rug at this age has it's wear, but it without a doubt contributes to its charm. This piece once on the floor of a nomads tent, so wear is to be expected.
