This chest as mentioned sold 13 years ago in Christies for £10,000 (£13,300 including fees) the original description is as below, you can find additional references in M. Hall, 'Dunecht House Aberdeenshire-I' Country Life, London, 22 August 1991, fig. 4. The eared top centred by a coat-of-arms with lion supporters, flanked by scrolling acanthus on a pounced ground, above a moulded ribbon-wrapped frieze above scalloped arcaded niches with Roman soldiers and figures, centred by Caesar and with St. George slaying the dragon to one corner, on a moulded plinth and lion's-paw feet, with an inventory label 'D3619', some soldiers lacking weapons As you can see below, it is rather monumental in size, ornately carved all over, it has a very unique coin mounted decoration, I'm not sure what the coins are but they look very old, the top displays an armorial coat of arms, this really is a tour de force of craftsmanship Dimensions Height:- 71.5cm Width:- 205cm Depth:- 69cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask. Any questions please feel free to ask before you bid. Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
