This chest as mentioned sold 13 years ago in Christies for £10,000 (£13,300 including fees) the original description is as below, you can find additional references in M. Hall, 'Dunecht House Aberdeenshire-I' Country Life, London, 22 August 1991, fig. 4. The eared top centred by a coat-of-arms with lion supporters, flanked by scrolling acanthus on a pounced ground, above a moulded ribbon-wrapped frieze above scalloped arcaded niches with Roman soldiers and figures, centred by Caesar and with St. George slaying the dragon to one corner, on a moulded plinth and lion's-paw feet, with an inventory label 'D3619', some soldiers lacking weapons As you can see below, it is rather monumental in size, ornately carved all over, it has a very unique coin mounted decoration, I'm not sure what the coins are but they look very old, the top displays an armorial coat of arms, this really is a tour de force of craftsmanship Dimensions Height:- 71.5cm Width:- 205cm Depth:- 69cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask.
