2005 Never Let Me Go

About the Item

A signed first edition of Kazuo Ishiguro's award winning work of speculative science fiction. A lovely copy of this important work. The signed first edition, first impression of this immensely successful novel from Nobel Prize for Literature winning author Kazuo Ishiguro, in the publisher's original price unclipped dust wrapper. Signed by Ishiguro to the title page, and with a Hatchard's wraparound band identifying this as a 'Signed Copy'. A celebrated work of dystopian science fiction imagining a cruel dystopian 1990s England in which human cloning is permitted for the purpose of organ harvesting. Upon release, the work was met with critical acclaim, and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 2005 as well as winning the 2006 Arthur C. Clarke award. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with price unclipped dust wrapper. With wraparound band identifying this as a signed copy. Externally, fine. Light marks to dust wrapper back strip and head of front wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Signed to title page. Pages clean and bright. Overall: Fine

    A superb set of the novels of Captain Marryat, elegantly and uniformly bound in half morocco, and illustrated throughout. A twenty-two volume set in half morocco bindings, with pictorial gilt to the spines. All edges gilt. Captain Frederick Marryat (1792-1848) was a Royal Navy officer and an early pioneer of nautical fiction. He is best known for his semi-autobiographical novel Mr Midshipman Easy (1836) and for his children's novel The Children of the New Forest (1847). He also developed Marryat's Code, a widely used system of maritime flag signalling. This handsome set includes twenty-two of Marryat's novels, edited with a prefatory note to each volume by R. Brimley Johnson. The set is lacking Volumes VII and X. These volumes have been reprinted from the first editions. Volume I contains a brief biography of Marryat by the editor.
