Staffordshire pottery Irish Setters, and puppies, c. 1850.

About the Item

A pair of Staffordshire pottery Irish Setters, and puppies, c. 1850. Elegantly modelled as two tall, seated Irish Setters, their hair well delineated, and painted with liver red spots, feathered at the edges. They sit, with recumbent puppies at their side, painted with black spots. Set upon shaped oval bases, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue, and having remnants of single gilt lines. Height – 20.5 cm, 8 1/8”. Width – 12 cm, 4 3/4”. Depth – 7 cm, 2 3/4”. Condition – Typical firing faults. No restoration. A-Z of Staffordshire Dogs, Clive Mason Pope, p.63, fig.7, for a similar pair.
