Berndt Friberg, Stoneware Large Bowl with Pattern, Gustavsberg, Sweden 1967

About the Item

Berndt Friberg, Large stoneware bowl with geometric patterns in yellow haresfur glaze, Gustavsberg , Sweden 1967 Impressed "Friberg" "G (hand) " Incised "I" This is a large bowl painted with geometric patterns in yellow haresfur glaze by Berndt Friberg, a master potter at the Gustavsberg Porcelain manufactory in Sweden. The entire vessel is covered with a yellow glaze, over which a double layer of green glaze is applied, blending with each other. On the glazed surface inside the vessel, a line pattern is neatly drawn on the surface as if drawn with a ruler. The shape of the bowl is a large regular circle, and it was precisely made on the potter's wheel. The vessel has been examined by an expert by UV light and visual inspection to ensure that there are no repairs and that it is not twice kiln fired.

The glaze flows nicely both inside and out, and the glaze has a fine hairline. The rim has a nice gradation. The shape is that of a bowl with a regular circle rim, falling vertically from the rim and bending at the waist in the shape of a twilled bowl, a standard shape for Friberg's work. The style form is influenced by old Chinese ceramics...
