Korean antique pottery vase/10th century/Wabi-Sabi vase/Goryeo period
About the Item
This is hard earthenware made during the Goryeo period in Korea.
This vase was made around the 10th century.
The walls of the vase are thin, but because they are baked at high temperatures, they are hard and make a metallic sound when tapped with a fingernail.
The color is gray because it is reduced and fired in the kiln.
Oxidation firing results in a reddish-brown color, but in this case, the entrance to the kiln is closed and the kiln is sealed before firing.
The firewood then removes the oxygen contained in the pottery, causing it to turn gray.
This vase has a very beautiful shape.
The skin is smooth and the curves are soft.
This shape is related to the celadon vases of the Goryeo period from the 11th century onwards.
Also, since a similar item was published in an art book, I have included a photo of it as a reference.
There is also a single line crack at the bottom (marked with a red circle). That has been repaired.
Please rest assured that water will not leak.
However, there is no damage, and it is considered to be in good condition for an excavated item.
This is a vase with a design that is not often available.
Highly recommended.
