Japanese Jewelry Box, 1900
About the Item
Jewelry box Japan 1890/1900 decorated with a hundred Menukis in embossed brass and inlays measuring height 33 x 33 x 15 cm. Menukis are ornamental pieces decorating the tsuka (handle) of a katana (Japanese sword). Most often these elements are made of cast metal and represent animals or symbols associated with traditional Japanese beliefs. the box is not in very good condition but the interest lies in the number of menukis it sports.
