Shepard Fairey Screen-prints: collection of 60 works: 2009-2022: A rare assemblage of 60 hand-signed Shepard Fairey screen-prints; collected over a near 15 year period (2009-2022). Notable imagery includes: Bob Marley, Keith Haring, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Kurt Cobain, as well as a series of vivid anti-war pieces defining the artist's practice (title list found further below). Each very well-preserved. Medium: Screen-prints on heavy paper. 2009-2022 (see below for a list of titles & years). Dimensions ranging from: 19.5 x 16 inches to 24x36 inches. Each work is hand-signed; works are either numbered from their respective main editions or notated 'AP' (see last listing image); a few or several works are signed, but not numbered. The Mudd Club was founded by filmmaker Steve Mass, art curator Diego Cortez, and downtown punk scene figure Anya Phillips in 1978. Mudd Club featured an art gallery curated by Keith Haring on the upper floor. Live performances by New York No Wave bands such as, DNA, the Contortions, Talking Heads & Basquiat's band Gray. On the dance floor, DJs, Anita Sarko and Johnny Dynell played an eclectic mix of punk, funk and curiosities. From the start it functioned as an antidote to the uptown disco glitz of Studio 54. Six months after it opened, the Mudd Club was mentioned in People: "New York's fly-by-night crowd of punks, posers and the ultra-hip has discovered new turf on which to flaunt its manic chic. It is the Mudd Club ... . For sheer kinkiness, there has been nothing like it since the cabaret scene in 1920s Berlin". After its first few years, Studio 54 celebrities like Andy Warhol, Grace Jones and David Bowie began to show up. In 1981, the Mudd Club's Steve Mass began showing up at the more informal Club 57 on St. Mark's Place, and began hiring Club 57 regulars including Keith Haring to help attract the downtown art & music scene. The landscapes in Erró’s work are a constantly changing kaleidoscope of images, multivalent and mysterious, not infrequently controversial, bursting with life – and titillating, too! There is room in his pictures for both paradise and visions of fear. Erró is the alias of Gudmundur Gudmundsson, born on 19 July 1932 in Olafsvik, in north-western Iceland. Since Gudmundur first became enthralled by pictures of works of art in a catalogue from the Museum of Modern Art in New York at the tender age of ten, painting has been his passion and his mission in life. He was accepted into art school in Reykjavik as a 19-year old, subsequently complementing what he had learned there with further studies in Oslo. Erró travelled extensively in Spain, Italy, France and Germany in the 1950s, studying at the Florence Academy of Art in 1954 and at the School of Byzantine Mosaic Art in Ravenna in 1955. It was around this time that he began to exhibit his works, first and foremost in Paris, where he chose to make his home in 1958. During the 1960s he established contact with the Swedish museum director Pontus Hultén, who encouraged him and took him under his wing. Over the years Erró has taken part in hundreds of exhibitions and today his works are on show in museums all over the world, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Erró’s pictorial world is peopled by comic-strip characters and autocratic despots alike. Donald Duck with his Daisy, Chip & Dale, and other Walt Disney creations are unselfconsciously juxtaposed with Greek gods and madonnas.
