The good quality and the style indicates probably a date at the end of the 17th century or the beginning of the 18th century. The painting represents a bouquet of tulips, carnations, poppies of Christmas roses. It is an artificial composition and a very symbolic work. He first studied with his father Paul and the sculptor Bernard Griffoul-Dorval. His first exhibited sculpture was already a portrait of a dog ("Druid", a dog of the Prince Imperial, in 1860). But Jules Bertrand Gélibert is above all well known today as a painter of hunting scenes and hunting dogs. His workshop was in Montmartre in Paris, 17 boulevard Pigalle.
