17th-century Neapolitan maestro
17th century By Neapolitan maestro San Vincenzo Ferreri Oil on canvas

17th century

About the Item

“Timete Deum et date Illi honorem quia venit hora iudicii Eius” (Fear the Lord and honour Him, for the hour of His judgement has come): the passage from John's Apocalypse (chapter 14, verse 7) is the essential element for the iconographic identification of the painting's subject, san Vincenzo Ferreri. The Dominican preacher is portrayed half-length with his right index finger pointing to the sky and to the motto inscribed inside his halo. Due to stylistic features, the canvas is considered to be the work of a Neapolitan master active in the 17th century. Original shaped, carved, sculpted and Mecca gilded wooden frame 'a cassetta'. Unpublished.
