Vernon Broe
West Tack

About the Item

Steeped in the tradition of American Marine painters, like James Buttersworth, and the English artist Montague Dawson, Broe handles his ships and water with great finesse. On a clear breezy day with clouds steaming by, his sailboat heads west around the point. The nearest boat is far ahead of his challengers, and his port side has sails full with the sun high above. He just recently passed at 81 and is missed by his marine contemporaries.
