Annie Wildey
Annie is a British painter and printmaker. She moved to New York City in 1989 and worked at the British Consulate. Art remained a part of her life during those years, but in 2006 she left and began a new chapter, returning to a life with art at the very center and enrolled in an MFA program at the The New York Academy of Art. This provided the instruction, immersion and creative freedom to develop her skills and artistic voice and proved to be a fruitful time bringing with it several awards including a postgraduate fellowship, Prince of Wales Scholarships and travel awards to Normandy, France and St Barts, in the French West Indies. After the fellowship, Annie left New York for the East End of Long Island and spent two wonderful years in the quiet hamlet of Orient, as Artist-in-Residence at the William Steeple Davis House. It was here that Annie met and became a studio assistant to Master Printmaker Dan Welden and continues to assist him at workshops in the North East, including Haystack School of Crafts in Maine, Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center and Montserrat College of Fine Arts. In 2011, Annie left the East End of LI and moved to Mystic Ct, where she maintains a studio at The Velvet Mill, in Stonington Ct. Annie’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally.

- Radiant, an active green wave depicted in oil on aluminumLocated in Edgartown, MAArt and design in varied forms have always been a driving interest in my life. Living in Madison, Connecticut, I began my career as a muralist and trompe l’oeil painter doing significant commercial and residential installations throughout New England. Eventually I changed my focus to landscape painting in oil as my work as a muralist became increasingly detailed. In this medium I discovered a more satisfying, intimate scale for my work. It was in my exploration of landscape painting where I discovered a love of aluminum and copper as a substrate. The ultra- smooth surface highlights brushstrokes and texture while adding an ethereal quality to my work. The depth and light of the reflective surface adds wonderful dimension to my paintings. Most of the inspiration for my work comes from the marshes and shorelines of the Northeast, particularly those along the New England shorelines. I often begin my painting en plein air and then complete them in my studio to ensure a strong composition and more effectively explore the effect of light and time on the landscape. Some of my work is also created through imagination using fragments of photos and memories to create a compelling composition. In addition to my gallery work, I also work with both public and private clients on commission pieces. One of my more prominent clients has been the Yale-New Haven Hospital network. My work seems to have a particular appeal due the sense of tranquility and quiet they convey. My work can be viewed at Sheldon Fine Art...Category
