About the Item

Jozef Popczyk Cubist Art Deco Painting Music Group oil on canvas. Joseph Popczyk Polish artist known for his vivid palette and love of Cubism, and in this case, the chevrons and wavy patterns of Art Deco can also be detected. Like many of his contemporaries in Eastern Europe, the artist was born in Poland and gravitated toward Paris in the 1910s. He loved to depict the flash and jazz of club life in Paris, always with stamina and energy. This painting has many great elements: a cellist, two horn players, a pianist, maybe some drums, and the overall essence of the Jazz movement in Paris. The colors are great, with lots of squares, round, and diamond shapes. It is signed in the lower right corner and recently framed. Joseph Popczyk, a Polish artist, embarked on a transformative artistic journey when he arrived in Paris in 1915. Initially painting in an academic style, he later transitioned to become a devoted Cubist. This shift in style led to the creation of an exceptional body of work, characterized by a vivid palette, Cubist influences, and nods to Art Deco. His art represents a fusion of different artistic styles, a testament to his response to the tumultuous events of his time. His unique approach and contribution to the art world make him an important figure in the history of Polish art and the broader European artistic landscape of the early 20th century. Popczyk's art is characterized by his vibrant palette and his incorporation of elements of Cubism. This revolutionary art movement, pioneered by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, emphasized the deconstruction and abstraction of forms, presenting objects from multiple viewpoints. In his paintings, Popczyk showcased fragmented forms and geometric shapes, a hallmark of the Cubist style. This unique artistic approach adds depth and complexity to his work, making it a valuable addition to any art collection. The painting has been recently cleaned, and two small tears have been professionally repaired; photos are enclosed. For the past 15 years, I've been a 1stDibs Furniture dealer with Platinum status. The King of Yvetot William Makepeace Thackeray: 1811 –1863 There was a king of Yvetot, Of whom renown hath little said, Who let all thoughts of glory go, And dawdled half his days a-bed; And every night, as night came round, By Jenny, with a nightcap crowned, Slept very sound: Sing ho, ho, ho! and he, he, he! That's the kind of king for me. And every day it came to pass, That four lusty meals made he; And, step by step, upon an ass, Rode abroad, his realms to see; And wherever he did stir, What think you was his escort, sir? Why, an old cur. Sing ho, ho, ho! and he, he, he! If e'er he went into excess, 'Twas from a somewhat lively thirst; But he who would his subjects bless, Odd's fish!—must wet his whistle first; And sofrom every cask they got, Our king did to himself allot, At least a pot. Sing ho, ho, ho! and he, he, he! To all the ladies of the land, A courteous king, and kind, was he; The reason why you'll understand, They named him Pater Patriae. Each year he called his fighting men, And marched a...
