About the Item

This beautifully excecuted landscape with cattle in watercolor was made by Abraham Hendrik Winter (1800-1861). Winter was born in Utrecht (the Netherlands) in 1800 and was a teacher at the National Vetenary school. From around 1820, the National Veterinary School located in the city of Utrecht, was the first educational institution in the Netherlands where veterinarians were trained. Besides his work as a teacher he was a lithographer, draftsman, etcher and painter. His subject mainly consisted of landscapes with cattle, animals, cityscapes and stable interiors. He was a pupil of Cornelis van Hardenbergh and Pieter Christoffel Wonder, his pupils where Hendrik Anthony Frederik Agathus Gobius, en Willem Roelofs.
