Jorge Castillo
Surrealist Composition - Original China Ink Drawing by Jorge Castillo - 1960 ca.

1960 ca.

About the Item

Surrealist Composition is a fascinating drawing in China ink made by the Spanish Surrealist artist Jorge Castillo, dated around 1960. The artwork was drawn on a paper that presents, on the back, some projects. The paper is glued on the four corners on a cardboard measuring 30 x 40 cm. On the higher right of the drawing, there is the inscription in black pen and capital letters, probably added at a later time, “Castillo/1960”. On the central left of the drawing, there is a circular stamp of the Pecci-Blunt collection. The same stamp, of bigger dimensions, is printed also on the back of the paper. The state of preservation is excellent. The drawing presents a Surreal subject, typical of Castillo’s early artistic style. Castillo is a painter, graphic artist, and sculptor who, since 1955, has produced several Surreal drawings and gouaches exhibited for the first time at the Galeria Altamira in Madrid in 1959. The artist then reached international fame exhibiting in France, Italy, Germany, and the USA. This is a very interesting artwork, one of a kind, influenced conceptually by Spanish Surrealist painting though showing the artist’s fully personal re-elaboration of it. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the work’s market price. The shipping may require additional handling days to require the licence according to the final destination of the artwork.
