Egyptian 18 Karat Gold Cufflinks Circa 1945
About the Item
This pair of buttery gold cufflinks were made in Egypt in the first half of the 20th Century. Crafted from 18 karat yellow gold, the pair are fully hallmarked for manufacture in the Egyptian city of Beni Suef and to the front panel are each hand engraved with an 'RJ' monogram. There is a small Islamic mark to the rear which appears to be the date mark for 1944/1945, allowing us to place manufacture of these cufflinks to the end of World War II. With allied soldiers stationed in Egypt during the war, it is possible these cufflinks were purchased by an official or someone associated with the military, and given they are an adornment worn by western gentleman it is not un probable that this would be the case. Regardless of their initial origins what is certain is that they are in lovely condition and despite being 80 years of age are as wearable today as they were in the 1940s.
