- Old XIXth BROOCH, Enamels, Silver, Vermeil, Antik BROOCH, Burgundy FranceLocated in SAINT-CLOUD, FROLD BROOCH early 19th century, antique brooch, in Georgian French enamel and vermeil silver. Brooch is decorated with an enamel motif typical of the town of Bourg-en-Bresse, in the region of Burgundy, France. French jewel from the Restoration period in France, Georgian period, between 1819 and 1838. dimensions: width 5 cm, height 4.5 cm, weight 14 g, good condition for its age, but I think the clasp needle is not original (hence the price, which is always negotiable). Bressan enamels are traditional jewels exclusively made in Bourg-en-Bresse in the department of Ain, they are made of enamel, fine particles of gold, all set on a mount. The Bressan tradition dates the origin of this technique back to the 14th century from 1397 when an enameller from the city, Master Guillaume, was entrusted with the sword of Amédée VIII of Savoy to decorate the pommel and the scabbard. This regional jewel, intimately linked to the traditional Bressan costume, reached its peak in the years 1800 to 1900, both in their creation and in their distribution. In the middle of the 19th century, the Bressan goldsmiths Amédée Bonnet and Amédée Fornet gave new impetus to these regional creations. In their workshops in Bourg-en-Bresse, they initiated a new genre, incorporating enamel plates, gold sequins, enamel beads and filigree arabesques into colored backgrounds.
