Victorian Antique Bohemian Garnet Large Floral Spray 1880s

About the Item

An original, Antique Bohemian Garnet Floral Spray from the late Victorian era, the 1880s. A large and delightful motif featuring a wheat sheaf pinned by a sunburst pave set with fancy rose cut stones. The variety of cuts creating a wonderful sparkling and opulent effect. A symbolic and a superbly elegant style. The history of garnet jewellery goes back hundreds of years and it’s not surprising given how wonderful it is. The Victorian era saw the meteoric rise of Bohemian garnet jewellery - jewellery mined and crafted in the historic region of Bohemia, latterly the Czech Republic. A de-rigeur jewel of Victorian times, garnet jewellery proved versatile with the stones the centrepiece for opulent and dramatic necklaces, earrings, bangles, bracelets, brooches and hair ornaments. Such was the scale of attraction; many thousands of cutters and miners were employed in the industry creating their high quality Bohemian garnet jewellery for worldwide export. Understandably garnet jewels from this era are highly coveted and distinctive by their pave stone arrangements, juicy rose cuts and mixed or low-grade metal closed backs. Perfectly crafted works of antique art that carry a story as well as style. Vintage Condition: Very good without damage or noteworthy wear. Materials: Base metal (most likely low-grade gold or 'garnet gold' typically around 6-8K however we are selling as 'base metal' as the carat is less than 9ct), natural garnets. Fastening: Hook fastening Approximate Dimensions: 8.5cm Established in 2016, this is a British brand that is already making a name for itself in the jewellery world both at home and internationally.
