110 Carat Floral Diamond Dodge Estate Brooch, Circa 1820
Located in Birmingham, MI
Inundating petals of precious karat gold and silver are encrusted with 324 fine, hand-cut diamonds weighing 110 carats. An exceptional jewel and object d'art of, the brooch became a piece of Americana when acquired by Anna Dilman Dodge in about 1920, then the wealthiest woman in the world. One of Anna's favorites, this breathtaking jewel was often worn with the famous multi- strand natural South Sea pearl necklace ensemble she acquired from Cartier for $1M in 1919, from the estate of the last Russian Empress, Catherine the Great. Diamonds each individually shaped to achieve organic, natural flow and are predominantly, near flawless clarity with collection- white color. Following Anna's death, much of the Dodge family jewels were first appraised, then sold or acquired by DiMaggio Jewelers and Gemologists from 1982-1984. The brooch has been held privately, mostly untouched, since. The exemplary crafted jewel features the Georgian era's trendy, state -of-the -art movement technique, which by incorporating coiled appendages to leafy diamond clusters, skilled goldsmiths achieved the Tremblant [en Francais] , 'trembling’ petals effect. Diamond caratage was determined by formula by renowned diamond cutter Dan Fainberg of Jules Fainberg, NY, NY and Anthony DiMaggio...

Antique French Early 19th Century Emerald and Rose Cut Diamond Gold Cluster Ring
Located in London, GB
This unusual antique emerald and diamond ring was made in France and dates to the early 19th century. In the centre rests a vibrant 0.3ct step cut emerald in an open-backed rubover silver setting. The stone is a wonderful vivid green colour and sits majestically within a halo of rose cut diamonds in closed-back and foiled rubover settings. The triangular facets of rose cuts were very popular during the Georgian and Victorian periods as they glistened more beautifully in candlelight than any other cut. The central cluster rests in a ‘belcher’ setting with 8 u-shaped curves to create a petal like design. The mount, crafted in 18K gold, is intricately engraved with foliate design and tapers towards the back of the ring with a D-shaped cross section. UK size T, US size 9.5. The ring weighs 7.03 grams, it is unmarked but tests as 18K gold. The ring is in good overall condition condition and the stones are securely set. There is some light wear to the gold as expected with rings of the age. The emerald displays a great colour with lots of natural inclusions; upon magnification, there is also a scratch to one of the corners of the table. The rose cut diamonds measure 2.5mm x 2mm across. The silver cluster measures 10mm in diameter. The ring sits fairly flat on the finger to allow for frequent wear, and the emerald is open-backed which makes it easy to clean! A truly gorgeous and highly unusual antique emerald cluster ring.

Carl Bacher 1870 Austrian Enameled Egyptian Revival Earrings In 18Kt Gold & Gems
Located in Miami, FL
Egyptian revival earrings designed by Carl Bacher. Exceptional pair of drop earrings, created in Vienna Austria at the jewelry atelier of Carl Bacher, back in the late 19th century. These fantastic pair has been crafted around the 1870 in the fashion style of the Egyptian Revival in solid yellow gold of 18 karats and embellishments of colorful enamels; such blue, white, turquoise and red. These earrings were designed in the shape of a crowned pharaoh with nemes headdresses and column from the hypostyle saloon, they are fitted on top with French hooks for pierced ears. The initial Egyptian Revival period flourished from the 1820s onward, and was inspired by ancient Egyptian imagery, such as the scarab beetle, sphinxes, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics. Pieces made by Carl Bacher from this period and style are extremely rare, museum pieces and highly collectable. Nemes This were pieces of striped head cloth worn by pharaohs in ancient Egypt. It covered the whole crown and behind of the head and nape of the neck (sometimes also extending a little way down the back) and had lappets, two large flaps which hung down behind the ears and in front of both shoulders. It was sometimes combined with the double crown, as it is on the statues of Ramesses II at Abu Simbel. The earliest depiction of the nemes, along with a uraeus, is the ivory label of Den from the 1st Dynasty...

Diamond Rings, Luxury Watches and Other Antique and Vintage Fine Jewelry and Estate Jewelry on 1stDibs

Our love for diamond rings, luxury watches and other antique and vintage fine jewelry and estate jewelry goes back thousands of years.

Jewelry has long been a symbol of spiritual strength, wealth or power and, of course, a means of personal expression. While materials and processes employed by the world’s most popular jewelry housesTiffany & Co., Cartier, BVLGARI and others — have evolved over time, humans still gravitate toward many of the same accessories that our ancestors wore.

Ancient Egyptians were often hard at work designing jewelry and adorning themselves with an array of necklaces, rings and other items, and nearly every Egyptian, rich or poor, was buried with some kind of jewelry. When King Tut’s burial chamber was excavated, it revealed a sense of style that inspired Art Deco jewelry designs.

Brooches and pins remain essentials in our jewelry boxes, although we no longer require them to fasten our garments, as was once their primary use. Rings, which have always been signifiers of eternity, still serve as romantic gifts and tokens of affection. Engagement rings are still widely recognized as symbols of love and commitment — and as it can be difficult to choose the right one, explore our buying guides for a close look at antique engagement ringsArt Deco engagement rings and vintage engagement rings. [Fun fact: It wasn’t until the 14th century that we learned how to effectively cut diamonds, a critical step in revealing the stone’s brilliance.]

Hoop earrings are imbued with symbolism and cultural significance for many, and on view in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Ancient Near Eastern Art Gallery is a pair of simple gold hoops from Mesopotamia dating to between 2600 and 2500 B.C. We’ve even created our own new, sacred symbols — the Cartier Love bracelet, for example, with its distinctive locking mechanism, is an understated and modernist symbol of love’s promise (with its own captivating history to boot). And, crafted by French jeweler Jacques Arpels of Van Cleef & Arpels, the Magic Alhambra necklace channels luck for the wearer with its universally adored design, which is informed by four-leaf clovers, a plant synonymous with good fortune.

Whether it’s our sentimental charm jewelry, costume jewelry, chunky retro bracelets or minimalist earrings created by the likes of contemporary designers WHITE/SPACE and Agmes, luxurious jewels can elevate any outfit, regardless of your personal style.

Find a wide-ranging collection of authentic antique, new and vintage jewelry today on 1stDibs.
