Taher Asad-Bakhtiari
Self-taught Iranian artist Taher Asad-Bakhtiari became a prominent representative of Persian crafts and culture when his tribal-inspired tapestries and other unique objects drew attention worldwide. From understated, beautiful resin-coated barrels, to Persian carpets and kilims rich in symbolism, his work is a masterclass in expressing a contemporary perspective while celebrating ancestral tradition.
Son of a Bakhtiari tribal member, Asad-Bakhtiari grew up with a deep pride in family identity in a household filled with huge carpets and antique furniture. He later studied multimedia and management in Canada and Switzerland. His time there led to a career running his own catering company. The company expanded rapidly thanks to Asad-Bakhtiari’s eye for detail and decoration — qualities that would define his design style.
Learning art by scratch allowed Asad-Bakhtiari to develop his own approach. His Archer collection, composed of seven individual designs, perfectly represents a contemporary take on tribal motifs.
Asad-Bakhtiari transformed his home in Dubai into a gallery-like showcase of his creations and collected pieces including rare Persian textiles and his favorite Cartier watches. It is a space vibrant with a wide range of influences that inspires his bold designs. He has been featured in Architectural Digest Middle East and Vogue, which covered his Recovered Barrels project and Archer collection.

- Small Square #7 by Taher Asad-BakhtiariBy Taher Asad-BakhtiariLocated in Pireaus-Athens, GreeceTaher Asad-Bakhtiari (b. 1982, Tehran) is a self - taught artist whose approach focuses on experimentations on objects and textiles to create and reinvent techniques and uses. He has developed several bodies of work including The Tribal Weave Project that breaks hundreds of years of weaving traditions. He re-created pieces that take on new functions as wall partitions, wall coverings, furniture spreads, challenging in their sweep the orthodox notion that “kilims and gabbehs are for the floor.” His work has been shown in several international exhibitions, including the Met (New York), Carwan Gallery (Beirut), Wallpaper Middle East Revealed, Qattan Foundation (London), and Katara Art Centre (Doha). Woven by semi-nomadic tribal women using entirely natur ally-dyed, hand-spun wool, each piece can require up to four months to create, depending on size. Unlike the traditional Iranian carpet...Category
