Vojtech Preissig (1873-1944) was born in the Czech Republic - His father was a mining engineer. In 1884 he moved to Prague where he studied at the School of Applied Industrial Art from 1892 to 1896, then at the School of Decorative Architecture from 1897 to 1898. In 1897 he moved to Paris and worked for two years with the Czech Art Nouveau artist Alphonse Mucha.
He returned to Prague in 1903 where he founded the periodical "Czech Graphics", published the book "Color Etchings and Color Engravings" in 1909 and opened his own graphics studio in 1905.
He moved to the United States in 1910 and worked as an art instructor. Preissig remained in the United States until 1930. He taught at Columbia University and the Art Students League of New York starting in 1912, then moved to Boston by 1916 and taught a course in graphic arts for the Wentworth Institute. He became the director of the School of Printing and Graphic Arts, until 1926. During his time with the Wentworth Institute, he designed recruitment posters for the United States armed forces of World War I, which were principally aimed at Czech immigrants.
Preissig, along with his daughter Irena Bernášková, supported the Czech resistance during both World Wars and was arrested in 1940 for doing graphic design work for one of the most important magazines of the resistance, called "Into the Fight", that had been outlawed by German authorities. He died on 11 June 1944 in Dachau concentration camp.
The Czech government has commemorated Vojtech Preissig by issuing stamps that feature his work in 1988, 1994 and 1998. In 1992, after Preissig's death, he was awarded the Order of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, class II. In 2008 the United States embassy in Prague held an exhibit of Preissig's work.

- Anders Zorn Swedish Artist -Etching, 1912, Portrait of a Skeri Girl "Skerikulla"By Anders ZornLocated in Phoenix, AZLovely original etching, a portrait of a local girl by Anders Zorn (1860-1920) $1500 Created 1912 and titled “Skerikulla." The image measures 9 3/4" H x 7 3/4" W. Paper size: 15 3/8" x 13" W. This print is in very good condition, but slightly light struck. Unframed. Presents in a two-ply museum mat. Anders Zorn was born in Mora, Dalarna in 1860. In 1893, on his first trip to America, Zorn visited New York City en route to the Columbian World Exhibition in Chicago (also known as Chicago's World Fair). The self-made artist subscribed to American values and immediately felt welcome in America. While at the Chicago World’s fair, Zorn met Mrs. Gardner. This chance meeting initiated a long friendship and patron relationship. Zorn's outstanding portrait of Mrs. Gardner is at the Palazzo Barbaro in Venice, and an impressive collection of Zorn prints have been on view at The Gardner Museum in Boston. In November of 1893, the Frederick Keppel Gallery on East 16th Street in New York City held the first American exhibition of Zorn's work and ignited Zorn's popularity in this country. As evidence of his influence in America, Zorn portrayed three Presidents: Theodore Roosevelt, Grover Cleveland and William Taft. He died in Stockholm in 1920. The artist was one of the most actively collected printmakers of the early 20th century, and was often ranked among the world's most highly-esteemed printmakers. In 1928, the Boston Herald published an article highlighting the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston's acquisition of a collection of 110 Zorn etchings.Category
