R Wilson McCoy, New York Central Railroad Locomotive Painting
About the Item
Steam locomotive with coal car and coaches. Signed R Wilson McCoy (1902-1961) lower right. McCoy was most famously known for his illustration work. Circa 1920-30. A nice bit of local down county Westchester, New York Central railroad history. Oil paint on canvas board. The framing treatment consists of an oak cove molding. The piece bares the marks of WPA art and American Regionalism of Thomas Hart Benton or Grant Wood. Good overall condition. The varnish had darkened with age and could probably use a little cleaning. No major surface paint losses. The frame is distressed with an old dark finish.
The canvas board measures 20" wide x 16" high. The overall dimensions with the frame are 22.88" wide x 19" high.
