An original ink drawing by John Pike, the well-known illustrator and watercolorist who was an important fixture of the Woodstock Art Colony, this piece advertised the Woodstock Society of Chambers in 1951, evidently a celebration involving food, drink and music for the town's artists. Pike was a nationally-renowned illustrator, watercolor artist and leader in the arts world for decades. In his early years he created advertisements for a rum company in Jamaica, and later painted for the United States Air Force. He founded and ran the John Pike Watercolor School for many years, exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and won many prizes and recognitions for his watercolors.
