Victorian Crystoleum Picture after A L Vernon The Messenger to the Heiress, 1896
About the Item
This is a very decorative Victorian period Crystoleum picture after A L Vernon called The Messenger to The Heiress and dating to the late Victorian period, 1896
The crystoleum is in a red painted wood frame.
Arthur Langley or Longley Vernon was a British artist who worked in the late 19th and early 20th century. This crystoleum picture was printed on the reverse concave glass from one of the artist's works.
The picture shows a gentlemen (messenger) on horseback talking to two ladies ( one being the heiress) with a dog outside a County cottage setting.
The process of making crystoleums was popular from around 1888 to 1915.
1000s of examples were produced but only a few survive.
This picture is signed A L Vernon 96, in the lower left hand corner with further words in small print of the maker etc which are hard to read, plus some further old wording on the reverse.
This is a very attractive and decorative picture.
