Massimo Agostinelli Heart Earth 2015 Anagrams Series Lenticular Print
About the Item
Massimo Agostinelli is an Italian American contemporary artist from New York living and working in Switzerland. Born in London and graduated from Webster University whilst pursuing apprenticeships in typesetting and typography as well as other forms of print making.
Agostinelli specializes in drawing/painting photography and printmaking, primarily working with text art using various forms of 'word play' and 'visual poetry'. Focusing on traditional and innovative cutting edge technologies using a wide variety of mediums and techniques within a diverse spectrum of crafts.
Agostinelli has gallery representation in major cities around the world including several museum exhibitions and participation in a multitude of prestigious art fairs. Agostinelli's work can be found among the finest international art collections both private and public and is collected by various celebrities.
Agostinelli's Anagrams series is a unique series of works referencing the hybrid and mysterious meanings of words associated with icons of popular culture. His works begin as digital renderings executed on customized panes of plastic with corrugated edges. The process known as lenticular printing is intended to create an illusion of depth as the viewer moves around the completed image. In this case, the image of a heart with structural characteristics of planet Earth is set as the backdrop with white block lettering hovering over it showing the word "Heart" that, as the viewer moves back and forth across the image, transitions into an anagram of the original word: "Earth". With this exceptional piece Agostinelli demonstrates the vulnerability of our precious planet and points out that mother Earth is indeed like our heart, the root of our life. His very clear message is that we should love our planet because essentially we are all one in our universe. In a world where we often take what we have for granted, Agostinelli aims to recalibrate our thinking in order to help us acknowledge just how significant our role is in ensuring our fate.
