About the Item
A small Dutch side table, typically Haagse School (The Hague School), 1920s. This table will fit in very well with other pieces in the same style and is ideal as a display table for a sculpture or a plant. The piece is made of solid oak and has blackened leg ends. In very good condition with small signs of wear. Pictures were taken in different kinds of natural light and sunlight, in order to provide an accurate impression of the appearance of this piece.
In the 1920s, a style of architecture and furniture design emerged in The Hague that would become known as Haagse School. More cubist and functional than the imaginative Amsterdam School style, but with some similarities as well. After the First World War, young designers such as Henk Wouda, Cor Alons and J. Brunott developed their own modern interior design. For inspiration they chose the work of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and combined their idiosyncratic preferences with the commercial requirements in furniture design of that time. The result was the now well-known Dutch 'Hague School' style with its straight and cubist shapes.
