Vintage French Provincial Petit-Bureau de Dame
About the Item
A beautiful petit-bureau de dame (also known as bonheur de jour or lady's secretary desk). Born in Provincial France in early/mid 20th century, finished in luxurious Louis XV taste, having a custom restoration in 1988, hand painted polychrome decoration with exquisite detail and depth, exceptionally executed landscape design of soft, muted blue-green and antique white with swans swimming in a pond surrounded by flowers and trees.
Having a demilune shaped shelf top with partial raised gallery, over a faux key-hole escutcheon adorned hinged drop-front that opens to a spacious interior fitted with ten various sized storage cubbies, and pair of small dovetailed drawers. The shaped fall front adds generous writing - work surface, over generous storage space is provided by a large single drawer embellished with Neoclassical ribbon shaped painted brass pulls, all gracefully rising on hand carved cabriole legs ending in pad feet.
Artist signed; dedication reads "created & decorated expressly for Rebecca Watson" Signed "Lucille GHeary(?) 1988"
