About the Item
Sculptural blackened steel and smoked glass top console table or standing desk by New York-based artist and designer Ellen Pong. Entitled "Pagoda", the design cleverly evokes the multi-tiered towers commonly found in Asia, as hinted by its title.
Commissioned as part of a collaborative showcase of socially-charged, conceptual design, this piece debuted at an exhibition entitled "Anti-Chairs" at Emma Scully Gallery in 2022, and is the designer's first non-ceramic object. A unique example of collectible, functional design, this piece is constructed of blackened steel topped with a smoked gray glass top. It was designed as a standing desk, featuring six shelf compartments along each side, and everted ends at the base, redolent of the classical pagoda form. In addition to serving as a standing desk, it would also make a phenomenal dry bar, high-rise console table, or curios display shelf.

Ellen Pong (b. 1995, Bellevue, Washington) is a ceramicist and designer based in Queens, New York. Her sculptural furniture and art objects have been shown by galleries like Superhouse, Marta, and Objective, and featured in publications like Curbed, Metropolis, and Elle Decor. She was listed on Sight Unseen’s American Design Hot List 2021. Ellen graduated with honors from the University of California, Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in History of Art.
