Broyhill
Founded during the 1920s, the Broyhill Furniture Company was one of the stalwart North Carolina makers of mid-priced, traditional wooden furnishings, and it served American families well. The Colonial Revival style — chairs with turned legs, beds with split pediment headboards — had always been the company’s stock in trade. But the vintage Broyhill bedroom furniture, dressers and cabinets of the postwar era are quite popular with today’s fans of mid-century modern design — particularly those who enjoy more flamboyant stylings, such as those of Adrian Pearsall.
For collectors of a certain type, Broyhill is most admired for its brief foray into the contemporary furnishings of the late 1950s and ‘60s. In 1957, responding to changing tastes, the firm launched its Broyhill Premier line with the Sculptra series.
Sculptra pieces featured decorative molding with a square-within-a-square motif and horizontal cat’s eye-shaped drawer pulls. Five years later, Broyhill introduced the Brasilia furniture group, inspired by the Oscar Niemeyer architecture for the brand-new Brazilian capital. The collection made its debut at the Seattle World’s Fair.
The cabinet door fronts of vintage Broyhill Brasilia pieces feature moldings based on the sweeping colonnades and parabolic curves of such buildings as the Palácio da Alvorada (“Palace of the Dawn”), the presidential residence. As you will see on 1stDibs, Broyhill created a striking and spirited line of furnishings that will make a happy keynote in any Atomic Age-inspired interior.
Ohio retailer Big Lots acquired the rights to the Broyhill name and related trademarks in 2019.

- Mid-Century Modern Black Faux Leather Love Seat Sofa by Taylor Chair Co. Style DBy Edward Wormley, Taylor Chair co., Dunbar Furniture, Harvey ProbberLocated in Topeka, KSHandsome Mid-Century Modern love seat length sofa in black vinyl faux leather upholstery and walnut base in the style of Wormley for Dunbar or Harvey Probber. It is in wonderful vintage condition. We believe the black vinyl to be fairly new. The walnut base does have age appropriate little nicks and dings. Please see photos, circa 1960s. It is hard to say who designed and produced this fabulously gorgeous and simple streamline Mid-Century Modern style sofa first. Was is Edward Wormley for Dunbar? Was it Harvey Probber or Florence Knoll? Or, did Taylor Chair Company, the maker of this particular love seat, actually make their rendition first? Does it matter? You will love the lines and materials used in this two-seat love seat Lawson shape sofa with a tight back and two loose seat cushions. It is covered in a very nice and natural looking black faux leather vinyl. So close to the real thing its is hard to tell the difference. And sets on a walnut Parsons’ style base. Simple but very handsome. Taylor Chair Company was founded by Benjamin Fitch in 1816 Bedford, Ohio. He originally made split-bottom chairs in his cabin. In 1841 one of Mr. Fitch’s employees, William O. Taylor, married Mr. Fitch’s daughter. William quickly took over active management of the company and by late 1940s the company became known as W.O. Taylor Factory. After a fire in the original location the factory moved. In 1871 W.O. Taylor’s son, Vincent A. Taylor, took the helm and the name was changed to W.O. Taylor and Son as they became an award-winning company. In 1885 the company incorporated becoming a public company known as The Taylor Chair...Category

- 1970 Modern Orange Chenille Tuxedo Sofa Rolled Arms Stratford Division FutorianLocated in Topeka, KSMarvelous vintage original orange chenille tuxedo sofa with rolled arms by Stratford designs a division of Futorian Manufacturing Company. Comprised of tuxedo frame, rolled arms, 3 back & 2 arm ground foam filled cushions, 1 foam bench seat cushion with button detail, 2 arm covers, and round tapered brown plastic legs. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, a small tear in the back of the sofa has been repaired at some point and the sofa has been professionally cleaned. It also has small signs of wear to the fabric which only add to its charm. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1970’s. In the case of this sofa, orange is DEFINITELY the new black!!! This is a fabulous vintage sofa by Stratford Designs wearing its original orange velvety chenille fabric. It is comprised of a tuxedo style frame with rolled arms, three back cushions and two side or arm cushions, all zippered and filled with ground foam, and a cozy foam filled bench seat cushion with marvelous button detail. It has two arm covers and round tapered brown plastic legs behind the base skirt. The fabric bears an all-over “perfectly imperfect” wear as you would expect with a vintage piece. We love it and would use it as is for a long time, however, some may wish to reupholster. Just imagine the limitless fabric possibilities!! One of the greatest assets this sofa bears is its incredibly comfortable single bench cushion! Yes, it's attractive but it’s quite possibly the PERFECT napping couch!!! No pesky cushion cracks to fall between!! Lol!! It is Modern in style, but it will blend in beautifully with many décor styles whether Mid-Century Modern, Industrial, Minimalist, Maximalist, or Hollywood Regency! Can’t you just see it in your family room, living room, or flanking the fireplace in the study? We certainly can!! Morris Futorian...Category
