Luciano Frigerio Dragoni sofa made in Italy 1970
About the Item
Extremely rare and extraordinary lounge sofa designed by Luciano Frigerio and manufactured by his own company Frigerio di Desio in Italy in 1970. This sofa has a sturdy construction with a solid mahogany armrests and veneered plywood frame. Impressively, it retains its original black leather cushions, which remain in excellent condition. The seat is composed of three separate elements, complemented by three backrests arranged in a "cage"-like structure. The cushions are detailed with attractive folds, adding an extra dimension to their appearance. The frame features a captivating deep red/orange color, making the chair aesthetically pleasing from every perspective.
Luciano Frigerio was born in Desio in 1928, where his Father Giovanni set up a small workshop of highly crafted cabinet making in 1889, Luciano attended the junior school at the Collegio Paola di Rosa in Desio. Luciano Frigerio completed his technical and administrative studies at the Pio XI College, gaining his diploma of Accounting, while at the same time cultivating and combining his two great passions, which he had had since his adolescence of designing furniture and composing music.
Already in the 1960s it was common to order specialized reading material and magazines focused on the sector from the States. Frequent visits to prestigious craftsmen’s studios like Canturine, where he often met Masters like Gio’ Ponti, Franco Albini, Carlo De Carli and Tapio Wirkkala, brought about the transformation of his small family business into a company which was oriented to the International market (Frigerio di desio).
In 1973 he was given the honorary title of Commendatore della Repubblica Italiana. One of the staff of technicians who worked in close collaboration with Frigerio helped him to realize his dream, that was to create a piece of furniture which was unique, made by putting together as many excellent materials as possible. From this idea “Mobili Scultura” (furniture sculpture) was born, in solid wood and the headboards for “Letti scultura” (Bed Sculpture) in a fusion of bronze, which created a totally new style, standing out from the industrial production of that era. In 1989 he was nominated Cavaliere dell’Ordine Equestre del Santo Sepolcro di Gerusalemme.

- Mario Bellini Quartet sofa Cassina Italy 1964By Mario BelliniLocated in Roosendaal, Noord BrabantExtremely rare 932 'Quartet' sofa designed by architect Mario Bellini and manufactured by Cassina in Italy in 1964. Very early model made up of five separate pieces. It's quite challenging to come across one in this large and impressive size. What makes it even more special is its gorgeous cognac colour. This sofa's modular design means you can arrange its elements in various ways to suit different settings. It's still in good original condition, considering its age, with some expected wear and tear that adds character and enhances its beautiful appearance and patina. There are no holes or tears in it. In the 1960s Mario Bellini reinterpreted the concept of classic furniture stuffing with the 932 model, transforming the padding of the traditional armchair into an item of furniture: four independent cushions connected by a belt passed around the outside. Bellini took as his starting point Le Corbusier’s Grand...Category
