An English oak hall chair from the mid-19th century, with pierced back, carved letters and wooden seat. Created in England during the 1850s, this oak hall chair features a slightly slanted back, pierced in its center, carved on the sides and incised with letters on the upper rail. The rectangular wooden seat is resting on four simple splaying legs. With its unusual decor and lovely oak patina, this English chair circa 1850 will make for a great decorative accent in any hallway, foyer or mudroom.

The back is a Classic balloon back shape, but with intricate cut-out and carved detail to the frame and particularly to the cross splat. This carved detail is continued on the front legs and front stretcher. The foot of the legs are splayed slightly outwards which adds to the features of this chair. Twin side stretchers give additional strength to this chair but overall this is a delicately made chair. It has a good wool-work covered seat with a rose spray design. Please note: This chair is not a strong dining room chair and is not recommended for regular use as a chair to sit on.
