Wood and fabric daybed with foldable armrests and storage unit, Italy, 1950s
About the Item
Wood and fabric daybed with storage compartment and foldable armrests in the style of Paolo Buffa, Italian craftsmanship, 1950s.
This piece of furniture embodies the design trends of the 1940s and 1950s. A curious mix of curved lines and right angles, complemented by the cheerful floral print of the fabric adorning the structure, evokes the vibrant imagery that has made Italy, real, imagined, and imitated, the epitome of a continuously dreamy "Made In Italy" style.
We're faced with a multifunctional piece of furniture that once adorned beach houses with its fresh design. The side armrests can be adjusted to various positions, inviting one to enjoy comfort tailored to different moments of relaxation throughout a vacation day:
With the side parts in a vertical position, it becomes a charming loveseat, perfect for convivial conversations surrounded by family and friends. Tilting the armrest slightly transforms it into an intimate and individual lounging space, with a pillow supporting the head, creating a spacious chaise longue conducive to reflection, reading a book, or contemplating the leisurely passage of time during vacation days. Finally, as the sunlight fades and evening descends, by lowering the sides of the daybed to a horizontal position, it becomes ready to welcome the night's rest, embracing the living dream that echoes memories of wakeful hours spent peacefully under the sun on the sand.
The piece has been professionally restored while preserving all its original functions. The light grain of the wood has been enhanced through skilled polishing, and the mattress, accompanied by cushions, has been refurbished with quality fabric perfectly matching the color scheme of the original fabric, which, out of respect for the object, was chosen to be preserved and enhanced.
Completing the piece is a very spacious storage compartment, useful for storing sheets, beach mats, and other necessities for a holiday stay. Accessing it is easy by lifting the lid on which the orange-colored mattress rests.
A unique piece of furniture, difficult to come by, it now lends itself to fulfilling various needs of contemporary interior design.
