1950's Martin Eisler Unique Sofa

About the Item

The sofa designed by Martin Eisler, in collaboration with Carlo Hauner, stands out as a truly unique piece that embodies the visionary creativity of these celebrated Brazilian designers. Known for their significant contributions to mid-century modern design, Hauner and Eisler's work often reflects a harmonious blend of functionality and artistic innovation. The uniqueness of the sofa lies not only in its sleek and timeless design but also in Eisler's meticulous attention to detail. The incorporation of red stitching serves as a distinctive element, elevating the sofa from a mere functional piece to a work of art. This subtle yet striking detail showcases Eisler's and Hauner's commitment to craftsmanship and their ability to infuse personality into their designs. The red stitching not only adds a pop of color but also highlights the sofa's form and structure, creating a visual focal point that enhances its overall aesthetic appeal. In the hands of Martin Eisler and Carlo Hauner, this sofa becomes more than just a piece of furniture; it becomes a testament to the designers' keen eye for design and their ability to transform everyday objects into extraordinary works of art. Hauner, originally from Brescia, Italy, studied design in Milan before immigrating to Brazil in the late 1940s. Eisler, born in Vienna, Austria, studied architecture before moving to Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1938, where he began exhibiting his furniture designs. After meeting in Brazil, Eisler and Hauner collaborated frequently, founding Forma with E. J. Wolf to sell their own designs as well as pieces licensed from Knoll International. Their work for Forma stands as one of the best examples of the mastery of designers in Brazil in the 1950s and 60s, leaving an indelible mark on the world of design.
