Early 20th Century Giltwood Luggage Rack

About the Item

A Charming And Extremely Attractive Early 20th Century Giltwood Rectangular Luggage Rack, Or Stool, Having Original Caned Top, Or Seat, Over Well Carved Frame. Raised On Elegant Turned, Tapering, Fluted Legs United By Cross Stretcher. Its difficult to establish whether this was originally made as a luggage rack, or a stool, we think perhaps a luggage rack but certainly it could have been either purpose. One things for sure and that is it could be used as either now. It is the perfect size for the end of a bed, in a window, along the wall in a narrow hallway or perhaps behind a sofa. The gilded decoration has adopted a beautiful rubbed, worn look to it over the years and overall the piece is incredibly decorative and pretty to look at. The condition is good, as mentioned above the gilding is rubbed in places but that adds to its visual appeal to be honest. The legs are sturdy and sound and therefore it is more than fit for purpose in terms of taking a suitcase or even a person. The canework is probably original and as a result is worn in places. The cane has received a few running repairs over the years and there are even a couple of areas where it is perished on one part of the cross, but this doesn't affect the overall structural integrity of the canework. As with all items which we offer for sale this giltwood stool has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers to ensure it is in its best condition possible and received a natural beeswax polish, before being placed on sale, therefore it is ready for immediate use within the home.
