African Coin Bracelet in Bronze - lost wax - Africa 19th

About the Item

This long, rare bronze bracelet was worn by women from tribes located in the common area between Nigeria, Cameroon and Ghana. These bronze bracelets were a symbol of wealth and were also used as currency. This bracelet was made using the traditional Benin lost wax cast bronze technique. The kingdom of Benin or Bini Edo was founded around 1300 and reached its peak between the 15th and 16th centuries. The African tribal art of the Kingdom of Benin is undoubtedly one of the best known thanks to its bronze statues. Made using the lost wax technique, sculptors cast plaques, effigies of queens and dignitaries, heads, horsemen and many other royal pieces. Lost wax is a precision casting process to obtain a metal sculpture (such as silver, gold, bronze, copper, aluminum) from a wax model. This wax model will then be eliminated by heating during the operation. Very beautiful and old Akan coin bracelet. The Akan are a conglomeration of peoples living mainly in the territories of the current republics of Ghana and Ivory Coast and who have strong linguistic, ethnic and cultural kinship Very nice patina of use Africa - End of 19th / beginning of 20th
