Known for his satirical graphic paintings of faceless figures commenting on society and the art world, created by hired painters, Kostabi became infamous for his tongue-in-cheek self-proclamations of being a Con artist.

Mark Kostabi became a leading figure in New York City's East Village art scene during the mid-1980s, along with other luminaries such as Keith Haring.
