TASCHEN
From his humble beginning selling comic books in his native Cologne to his rapidly expanding book publishing empire, Benedikt Taschen has been all about living large — literally. Sumo, a 464-page, 66-pound compendium of Helmut Newton’s photography is one of the largest and heaviest books ever produced — it comes with its own display stand — and among the most expensive, too. The first copy in a limited edition published in 1999 and signed by many of the celebrities whose images appear in its pages sold at auction for $364,000.
TASCHEN’s success derives from his personality: he publishes books that reflect his own diverse personal enthusiasms. TASCHEN’s lavishly produced art books run the gamut from the ridiculous (The Big Book of Breasts) to the sublime (17th-century naturalist Albertus Seba’s Cabinet of Natural Curiosities).
The TASCHEN catalog includes scholarly examinations of cultural icons such as Muhammad Ali, gorgeous monographs on painters like Hieronymous Bosch, exquisite books of photography like Sebastião Selgado’s Genesis and portfolios of muscle cars. In addition to his 11 bookstores located in the United States and Europe, TASCHEN recently opened an art gallery in Los Angeles devoted to photography.
As you can see from the titles available on these pages, you are more than likely to have an interest in common with Benedikt Taschen — and his marvelous books give you a way to explore it fully.

- Great Escapes: Italy Angelika Taschen and Christiane Reiter Hardcover BookBy Angelika Taschen, TASCHENLocated in North Hollywood, CAGreat Escapes: Italy Angelika Taschen and Christiane Reiter Hardcover Book. To travel through Italy is as close as one gets to being in paradise. For centuries, writers, artists, architects, and merchants have been drawn here, inspired by the beauty of Venice, Florence, Naples, and Rome. Countless books, paintings, poems, and sculptures are evidence of its undying appeal, and over the past 60 years, the country has become one of the world’s top travel and holiday destinations. The loveliness of Italy—its architecture, landscapes, culture and food (some of the world’s finest!)—if not eternal, is certainly enduring, and the easygoing and relaxed Italian lifestyle, il dolce far niente, is still unrivaled. Here, some of Italy’s most amazing landscapes are brought to life, like Lake Como (residence of George Clooney), Venice, Florence and Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast, and no less magical, the Aeolian Islands off the coast of Sicily. In these mythical surroundings are legendary hotels full of atmosphere, where novels are set, movies are made, weddings are celebrated, and famous love stories consummated: Villa d’Este on Lake Como, the Hotel Splendido...Category

Making stops in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia, this edition rounds up some of today’s most exceptional and inspiring interiors across six continents. From rustic minimalism to urbane eclecticism, the selection celebrates a global spectrum of styles, united by authenticity, a love of detail, and a zest for individual expression that will never go out of fashion. 100 Interiors Around the World takes the reader inside and outside of the most beautiful properties in the world. The book spans across six continents and includes a vast range of styles. This book is great for the architecture and home-styling lover, inspiration for the renovation starter, or as a lovely coffee table book for any home. Taschen, the publisher of Brobdingnagian art and design books, has collected 100 interiors in two hefty volumes, like an Oxford English Dictionary of global interiors. A is for an apartment in Amsterdam, overlooking the North Sea Canal. It is also for a concrete spaceship of a house (plus moat) in Acapulco. B is for Beijing and Beverly Hills and Berlin, and not one but two cold war-era apartments — one in former Soviet housing, its pocked cement walls now patina for a young artist’s vintage and Ikea furniture. C is for Cape Town, and the home of an artist who works in mosaics and plumbing pipes painted in rainbow colors. In Chiang Mai, a house on stilts is tiled in concrete imprinted with bamboo. In New York City, a computer consultant lives in a former garage outfitted with twin sleeping pods made from an oil truck tank. This collection represents the greatest hits from Taschen’s archive Includes interiors in Argentina, Brazil, China, Cuba, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Morocco, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the UK, the USA, and many more countries. With pictures by leading interior photographers including Xavier Béjot, Pieter Estersohn, Marina Faust, Reto Guntli, François Halard...Category

- 20th Century String PuppetLocated in Los Angeles, CAThis oddly beautiful, in a tragic way, puppet was made somewhere in the 20th century, as we are uncertain of their specific creation date. The plexiglass case around them was custom made for them specially, and has kept them safe all these years. You are able to take the puppet out of the case and maneuver it around like any other string puppet. They are dressed in a white, silk suit with black pom poms decorating the gown. Their expression is dramatic in a way that you almost cannot tell what emotion they are expressing; it is up to your interpretation. Great as a collectors item.
