XL Mirror Installation by Michel Martens
About the Item
These three XL mirrors in concentric circles belong together, they were designed by the Belgian artist Michel Martens (1921-2006) as an installation. Each mirror has a diameter of 180 cm.
It is great to hang the three mirrors in a U form to create an endless view with the two opposite mirrors, the third mirror will reflect the environment in the installation. The three mirrors above or next to each other will also be impressive. Feel free to be creative.
This installation, dating from the 1970s, is in very good authentic condition. One mirror has some minor scratches, visible on the detail pictures.

Michel Martens
Michel Martens was a glass and mirror artist from Belgium. He was an autodidact and first taught himself the technique of stained windows. Martens designed about 7000 meters of stained glass between 1947 and 1989 for churches and monasteries. From 1968 onwards, he started to lose the church as the main client and therefore started to develop a practice in which he worked with mirrors that were also suitable for the private sector. Martens's artworks are part of the collection of the V&A in London and the Louvre in Paris.

The image is hardly distorted with a linear view, but when looking at it from a different angle it becomes more than just an every day object. No one mirror is the same as they are all smashed by hand. The mirrors are easily installed with the included nails and plugs. Designed by Lennart Van Uffelen...Category
